El analizador móvil SM-4 de Mercury Instruments se desarrolló basándose en el sistema fijo de medición de mercurio SM-4. Su principio y técnica de medición, su reactor termocatalítico, su detector y su sonda de muestreo son idénticos a los del sistema de chimenea estacionario SM-4.
